More than just lighting a candle . . . Acolytes are an important part in the worship service at First United Methodist Church. 
For years, light and fire have reminded people that God is here with us.
When an acolyte carries the light (fire) into the place where people are gathering to worship, they are reminding people that God is with us. And when the acolyte carries the light out they remind us that God goes with us to our home, our work, or our school.
 Children in grades 3 and up are encouraged to participate in the worship service by becoming an acolyte. Acolyte training is held once a year with refresher courses offered as needed.
