FIVE CHANNELS OF UNDESIGNATED GIVING
Pledge: Your pledge giving is the
foundation for mission work through United Methodist Women. "United
Methodist Women has worked unceasingly to meet the physical, spiritual and
emotional needs of the unwanted, the unemployed and the unwelcomed."
Special Mission Recognition: A Special
Mission Recognition is an undesignated gift for mission through the Women's
Division in honor of the recipient. Any unit or individual may give a Special
Mission Recognition in honor of any person, male or female. The recipient
receives a Special Mission Recognition pin and a certificate.
Gift To Mission: A Gift to Mission is a
way to honor someone with an undesignated mission gift of at least $5.00 in her
or his name. These funds support the total program of mission carried out
through Women's Division of the General Board of Global Ministries. The way you
inform someone that you have given a gift to mission is to send a Gift to
Mission card. There are six choices of cards: THANK YOU, CONGRATULATIONS, IN THE
SERVICE OF CHRIST, A BABY, A SPECIAL DAY, AND THINKING OF YOU.
Gift In Memory: The death of a much loved
family members or friend is a difficult time. A Gift in Memory through United
Methodist Women honors their memory and their life of service through making
possible additional mission work in the United States and around the world. The
Gift in Memory card may be sent to the family of the deceased. Consider the Gift
in Memory as an appropriate memorial for a special person. Undesignated giving
helps to build schools, to teach young people, to erect hospitals and clinics.
Gift in Memory cards are free.
World Thank Offering: The World Thank
Offering is an opportunity for individuals to respond to God's abundance and
grace with spontaneous gifts of gratitude. The World Thank Offering allows
people to share a portion of God's blessings with others. The funds received are
used in the total program of mission carried on through Women's Division mission
in the U.S. and around the world. Each person who wishes to participate in the
World Thank Offering is encouraged to use a special container for regular gifts
2005 SUPPLEMENTAL GIVING
FIRST QUARTER: CALL TO PRAYER AND SELF-DENIAL
This is an annual observance of United Methodist Women based on a specific theme
that provides an opportunity for prayer, reflection, study, and sacrificial
giving. The theme for 2005 is "Disparity and Discipleship". Our gifts
from this service will focus on women, children, and the poor who continue to be
the primary victims of violence and premature death and will support efforts to
prepare women for employment, to advocate a living wage for all, and to work for
economic justice. The Call of Prayer and Self Denial Program is found in the
Program Book.
SECOND QUARTER: VASHTI
The Vashti Center has been serving children and youth in South Georgia for more
than 100 years. Founded in 1903 by Deaconess Annie Heath, Vashti provides
shelter, clothing, food, and most importantly, love for the children God has
placed in their care. Vashti has excellent facilities, top-notch programs that
are proven to be effective, a well-trained and competent staff, and a dedicated
management team. They are committed to improving the way children are treated
and take a stand in the fight against child abuse and neglect.
THIRD QUARTER: THE METHODIST CHURCH OF CUBA
Our gifts for this quarter will be given to the Methodist Church of Cuba to be
used at its discretion to help promote Christianity and Methodism in Cuba. God
has a purpose which we strive to detect, understand, and fulfill. It is our
belief that ultimately God's purpose of abundant life for all of humanity will
prevail. The fulfillment of this purpose will come not because of what we do but
simply because it is the very nature of God. (Mission study guide on Cuba by
Joanne R. Perez)
